What to Look for In a Niacinamide Treatment

In terms of popularity, Niacinamide is as hot as it gets. The past 6 months have drawn a great deal of attention, but this Vitamin B3 based ingredient has been a staple in cosmetic skincare for decades. Consumers are trending more towards straight forward, transparent ingredients. This this marketplace an ingredient like Niacinamide really shines. Its natural properties are beneficial to a large number of skincare conditions, this is why you are here. You know you want one, but which product is right for you.

Oil or Serum?

Niacinamide seems to come predominantly in two forms. Oils and Serums. There is some debate as to which form is most effective. Serums are typically known for penetrating the skin well and delivering active ingredients to the lower levels of the skin. Oils, typically stay on the surface layers of the skin and penetrate less. Oils are becoming more popular now than in recent years. Oils often come with 'delivery' or 'carrier' oils in the formula which help with active ingredient absorption.

For us, we believe the smarter choice is the Serum. Serums have a track record for delivering the active ingredient. Oils may be trendy but why run the risk of poor absorption. Better to get the serum and feel confident knowing the active ingredients will be delivered where you need them.

Look for 5% Concentration

The scientific studies that have shown Niacinamide to be beneficial for the skin range in concentrations from 4-5% depending on what you are trying to accomplish. If wrinkles and lines are your concern, 5% is the concentration needed. If you are concerned with skin tone and discoloration a minimum of 4% is required. 4-5% is recommended for acne treatment as well.

Typically, there is not a big reduction in price between a 3% or a 5% serum. You are not saving any money and you are sacrificing results. Its a quick check to ensure you will be satisfied with your results.

Cell Renewal & Turnover

Niacinamide is a critical piece of your skin's natural renewal process. This is why it is beneficial to so many different skin conditions. Cell turnover, in short, works to produce collagen and heal damaged skin cells. Collagen improves the firmness and elasticity of skin, making wrinkles less visible. Niacinamide works on discoloration and acne by speeding up the cell healing process. We recommend you seek out serum that supplements this renewal process. Niacinamide is a great start, but combine it with Matrixyl (a copper peptide) and you have something special.

Boosting the healthy cell turnover process is the key, and peptides are the right balance for Niacinamide. You can't go wrong combining the two.

Moisture & Hydration & Moisture

A bi-product of the cell turnover is that your skin can become dry if left unaddressed. For this reason you will often see a Niacinamide Serum that has a moisturizer in it as well. But not any old moisturizer will do, you need an ingredient that will not only provide moisture but will help retain it as well. In our opinion, there is no better ingredient than Hyaluronic Acid at doing this. HA, as it is sometimes called, hydrates and plumps the skin cell on contact and retains that moisture.

Summary

If you are considering a Niacinamide Serum, you are off to a great start. Niacinamide is Awesome. Regardless of which skin conditions you are concerned with, we think it is a smart choice. There is no doubt that Niacinamide will improve the health of your skin. Healthy skin, is confident skin. If you follow our guidance, we believe you will not only be satisfied you will be downright happy with your purchase.
